I must describe myself as a "Freelance Modeller". I enjoy whatever that I find or think of that catches my imagination, which does not necessarilly have to be prototypical.

Over the years I have built a few layouts - but they have never reached completion. There has always been ample trackwork to run on, but I always seem to baulk when it is time for scenic work. I`m certain that I have enough skill for scenic work, but I find that the electrics and electronics more interesting, and are neverending. By which time my enthusiasm for scenery has diminished.

When contemplating my current layout, I had the option of a turntable or `return loops` to turn locos around. I fancied the return loops and that`s how it was built.

It has a twin `tail chaser mainline, with a Diesel Depot at one end, and a four road steam shed at the other. There is adequate carriage storage, and a small goods area. The nine road fiddle yard is four foot long, and can hold quite a fair amount of locos and rolling stock.

THIS SERVICE HAS NOW REACHED ITS TERMINUS!

AND NOW A LOOK TO THE NEW AMERICANISATION - I`M LOOKING FORWARD TO IT.

Today is the 6th.July 2001., and the last bits and bobs are being listed for auction on eBay. My feelings are ambivalent, but I know it`s a challenge worth looking forward to.

I have already bought a lot of American Locos and Rolling stock, they will be illustrated in the new Gallery in due course. Their quality and cost leaves the Graham Farish products far behind, and who knows what Bachmann are going to do.

Once again I`m certain that like the British Outline that I had, the new American setup will also be "Freelance" with a leaning towards "Chicago & North Western", "LMS", and "Conrail", but of course this group`s parent company "Union Pacific" will play a part along the line (excuse the pun). That is the best part for me, I can run what I like on my layout.
